step up to the plate準備出手
棒球打擊者要打擊時會先站上本壘板，板子的英文是plate，因此step up to the plate的意思就是站上本壘板，準備一展身手的意思。
After a few months of training, the singer is ready to step up to the plate. （在幾個月的訓練後，該歌手已經準備好一展身手了。）
hit it out of the park/hit a homerun全壘打
球場英文是ball park，所以hit it out of the park就等於hit a homerun（全壘打）意思，引申的含義當然就是大成功。
The new product introduced by DS Tech hit it out of the park. Now the company needs to find a way to boost its production. （DS科技所引進的新產品大獲成功。現在該公司需要設法增加產能了。）
touch base簡短交流
壘包英文叫做base，而touch base的意思來自於棒球在防守中碰到壘包就安全的規定，引申為與對方認識或是重新再會面（交流）。但是因為碰壘包的時間不會太長，所以touch base通常是短暫的會面。
Do you have some time after this session? I would really love to quickly touch base with you. （這個場次結束後您有點時間嗎？我真心想跟您交流一下。）
cover one’s base防守與保障
在英文中防守壘包用的不是protect，而是cover，所以cover one’s bases的意思就是防守好各個壘包，也就是保障安全。
The new technology by Hermes Consulting will have your company’s Internet Security bases covered! （Hermes諮詢公司的新科技將會保證貴司網路使用的安全。）
one base at a time步步為營
由於棒球賽制是逐壘推進的，所以one base at a time（一次一個壘包）的意思就是一步一步慢慢前進。
Don’t rush. Let’s do this project one base at a time. （別著急。我們這個計畫步步為營。）
